MODELO FM 97.7 MHz “University of Merengue” was born September 29 th of 1991, in the city of San Pablo de Manta (260,000 pop.), located in the coast, province of Manabi (1,109,00 pop. ) Its owner, Mr. Angel Delgado Toro, a journalist with an outstanding resume, starts the first FM radio Station with a well defined identity: Tropical music 100%. Since then, meringue imposes itself as the new and dominant rhythm. It didn't take long for Modelo FM to transform in to the number 1 radio station in Manta, and then in one of the best of the province, maintaining this position up until the present.
For some background, the 28 th of September of 2001, to celebrate the 10 th anniversary of the radio station, a dance party was organized with the presence of more than 14 orchestras and tropical music groups (the best of the country), with the assistance of more than 30,000 people, becoming the event of greatest assistance in the history of Manta.
Right now, MODELO FM is the number one in tuning in Manta and it is among the first 3 stations of the province, making it the first radio station in Ecuador to be characterized because its programming is MERENGUE in its majority.
